A First-Timer's Guide to the Sound

Island · Aug 2026 · 6 min read

The sound side is the island's calm half — shallow, warm and glassy at dawn. Launch from our dock and paddle north along the marsh edge, where herons fish and wild horses sometimes wade at low tide.

Beginners should go early: wind usually rises after lunch. Our kayaks are stable sit-on-tops, life jackets are required and free, and the dock board marks the two easiest loops — the 40-minute Heron Loop and the two-hour Horse Point paddle.

Prefer company? Join the guided sunrise paddle on Tuesdays and Saturdays, back in time for breakfast on the terrace.
